BENGALURU: Passengers who often travel by train have to cancel their tickets at the last minute in case they fail to get ticket confirmation and also they happen to have put in the wait-listed passengers list which has no ending. According to indiatimes.com, the Railway Department is now providing berths in other trains running on the same route and on the same ticket.
Now the Indian Railways is planning to provide the passengers who are in waiting list category, with an alternative to make their travelling smooth and hassle free. This new initiative has been worked out after taking into account, passengers concern about the tough time they encounter while commuting with waiting ticket in trains. This proposal given by the Railway Authorities as the backup plan for wait listed passengers is still in its initial stage.
Here the passengers are not required to cancel their already booked tickets because, they will now be allowed to travel in other trains with same tickets and will not have to book a fresh ticket. Though this plan is still in the initial stage, the Railways officials are working to materialize the plan as soon as possible. It is also said that the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is planning to provide a scheme by offering passengers who fail to get their waitlisted ticket confirmed by converting it into an airline ticket at a competitive fare.
The Railway Public Sector Units (PSU) will be tied-up with budget carrier GoAir and will sell about 100 tickets through this scheme when it’s implemented. It is also being said that the new backup plan will be a win situation for both passengers and the Railway Department. Passengers will now get an easy ride while Indian Railways will get good revenue out of it. If this proposal becomes operational, passengers can hope to reach their destination without any hassle.
