Swachh Bharat Ranking: Mysore Tops Rankings, Delhi Cantt At 15th Slot


BANGALORE: Ten months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked-off the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a performance ranking of the cities showed that Mysore tops the list of cities in the country that have met the mission’s targets in urban India.

Incidentally, the Prime Minister’s constituency of Varanasi ranks a low 418 on the list of 476 cities. The rankings, based on the extent of open defecation and solid waste management in these cities, were released by the Ministry of Urban Development.

Among state capitals, Bengaluru comes first (number 7 in the list of all cities) and Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala was on second position (number 8 among all cities) while Patna scored the least at rank 429. While among the metros, New Delhi Municipal Corporation is at 16th position with the Delhi Cantonment area a notch ahead at number 15th, Chennai at 61 and Greater Mumbai at a lowly 140. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi figures in at 398.

Of the top 100 cities, 25 are from West Bengal alone.
