L&T to Supply K9 VAJRA-T Guns in Rs 7,628 Cr Deal with MoD

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has finalized a Rs 7,628.70 crore contract with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) for the procurement of 155 mm/52 calibre K9 VAJRA-T self-propelled tracked artillery guns for the Indian Army. This agreement, classified under the ‘Buy (Indian)’ category, marks a major stride in modernizing the Army’s artillery capabilities and strengthening the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

The K9 VAJRA-T artillery guns are equipped with advanced features, including high mobility, precision targeting, and the ability to operate effectively in extreme conditions, such as sub-zero temperatures at high altitudes. The guns aim to enhance the Army’s firepower and operational readiness across diverse terrains.

This project is expected to generate over nine lakh man-days of employment within four years, involving contributions from various Indian industries, including MSMEs. It represents a major milestone in the country’s push for self-reliance in defense manufacturing under the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative.

The MoD highlighted the artillery’s versatility, stating, “This advanced system will bolster the Indian Army’s capability, enabling deeper strikes with precision and providing a significant edge in all terrains”.
