2. March on Washington in 1963:
The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom took place in Washington, D.C., on August 28, 1963. Attended by over 200,000 masses, it was the largest demonstration for human rights ever seen in United States history. The demonstration was mainly carried out to call for civil and economic rights for African Americans. It was organized by a group of civil rights, labor, and religious organizations, under the theme "jobs, and freedom". The march was successful in pressuring the administration of John F. Kennedy to initiate a strong federal civil rights bill in Congress. During the event, Martin Luther King delivered his historic ‘‘I Have a Dream’’ speech, which is still imbibed in people’s minds till date.
