Know The Diverse Ways In Which Dussehra Is Celebrated Across India

In South India, this festival is popularly referred as Golu. Down south, Dussehra holds a lot of significance and is an important festive period on religious calendars. Hundreds of miniature idols are purchased and each household creates their own unique settings to represent culture and heritage through these dolls. The idols are usually arranged on a wooden stool or a chair which are specially built for this purpose.
Women capture the centre stage in South India as it is considered to be a celebration of feminine qualities such as dance, music and decoration. This side of India celebrates the festival for ten days, culminating on the tenth which is Dussehra.
The celebration in Mysore, Karnataka is world famous. For Dussehra, the entire city of Mysore is adorned with flowers, diyas and bulbs. In Mysore, huge statues of Ravana, Meghnath and Kumbhkaran are burnt at the Mysore palace which is illuminated for a whole month during the festive season of Dussehra. The elephants are well decorated and they lead a colorful procession through the vibrantly decorated streets of the princely city.
