John Slaven Named Vice-Chairman of International Aluminium Institute
Vedanta Aluminium has announced the appointment of its CEO, John Slaven, as the Vice-Chairman of the International Aluminium Institute (IAI). In this new role, Slaven will spearhead global initiatives aimed at highlighting aluminium's crucial role in facilitating the energy transition to zero carbon.
"Aluminium has already proven itself essential in the global transition to a net zero future", Slaven remarked. "The IAI has undertaken stellar efforts in this regard, and I look forward to working with my fellow board members and colleagues to reinforce aluminium as the definitive metal of the future".
The International Aluminium Institute represents the primary aluminium industry on a global scale. Its mission includes enhancing awareness of the industry's operations, advocating for responsible production practices, and promoting the significant benefits of using aluminium in developing greener technologies. The IAI's current membership comprises the world’s leading bauxite, alumina, and aluminium companies.
With over three decades of experience in the metals, mining, and modern manufacturing industries, Slaven brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new position. His leadership at Vedanta Aluminium, a leading producer of aluminium with a production of 2.37 million tonnes in FY24, underscores his capability in driving industry advancements. Vedanta Aluminium is also noted for producing value-added aluminium products essential to various core industries.
Slaven's appointment as Vice-Chairman of the IAI marks a significant step in promoting the sustainable development and utilization of aluminium, further solidifying its role as a pivotal material in the quest for a zero-carbon future.
