Indian-Origin Sridhar Ramaswamy Takes Helm as CEO of Snowflake
Snowflake, the US-based data cloud company, has appointed Indian-origin Sridhar Ramaswamy as its new Chief Executive Officer and member of the Board of Directors. The transition comes as Frank Slootman, the outgoing CEO, decides to retire but will remain Chairman of the Board.
Ramaswamy, formerly the Senior Vice President of AI at Snowflake, expressed gratitude for the foundation laid by Slootman and the team over the past 12 years, establishing Snowflake as a leading cloud data platform. Ramaswamy aims to lead the company into a new era of growth, emphasizing the potential of AI to deliver substantial business value.
Having joined Snowflake in May 2023 through the acquisition of Neeva, the world's first private AI-powered search engine, Ramaswamy has been at the forefront of shaping Snowflake's AI strategy. Under his leadership, Snowflake launched Snowflake Cortex, a fully managed service designed to simplify and secure AI for all users.
Slootman expressed confidence in Ramaswamy, stating that there is no better person to navigate Snowflake through the next phase of growth. Recognizing Ramaswamy as a visionary technologist with a successful track record, Slootman looks forward to collaborating in this new capacity.
Before Snowflake, Ramaswamy Co-Founded Neeva in 2019. His notable experience includes leading all of Google's Advertising products, contributing significantly to the growth of AdWords and Google's advertising business from $1.5 billion to over $100 billion during his 15-year tenure at Google. Additionally, he held research positions at Bell Labs, Lucent Technologies, and Bell Communications Research (Bellcore). Ramaswamy was also a Venture Partner at Greylock Partners and serves on the board of trustees at Brown University.
