In a historic moment, Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman of Bharti Enterprises, has been conferred with an honorary knighthood by the United Kingdom, making him the first Indian citizen to receive this prestigious recognition. Mittal has been appointed as Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE) by King Charles III, honoring his notable contributions to UK-India business relations.
The KBE, one of the highest civilian honors granted by the British sovereign, is bestowed upon foreign nationals in an honorary capacity. Expressing his gratitude, Mittal remarked, "I am deeply humbled by this gracious recognition from His Majesty, King Charles". He highlighted the historical ties between the UK and India, emphasizing the onset of a new era marked by increased cooperation and collaboration.
Mittal affirmed his ongoing commitment to fortifying economic and bilateral trade relationships between the two nations. He acknowledged the pivotal role played by the UK government, expressing thanks for its support and keen attention to business needs, making the country an appealing investment destination.
This isn't Mittal's first recognition; in 2007, he was honored with the Padma Bhushan, one of India's highest civilian honors, acknowledging his distinguished services of high order. Mittal's latest accolade reflects the continued strengthening of ties between the UK and India, marking a significant milestone in fostering global partnerships.
