India to Reveal White Paper on Booming Live Events Industry: WAVES 2025
India should be among the top five live entertainment hubs of the world by 2030, spurred by investment focused on growth, policies conducive to growth, and upgraded infrastructure. The period between 2024-2025 will be critical, with global acts like Coldplay touring major Indian cities, a hint at the nation's preparedness to host mega events from around the world.
Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, L Murugan, will release 'India's Live Events Economy: A Strategic Growth Imperative' on May 3 at the WAVES Summit 2025 in Mumbai. This Ministry of Information and Broadcasting commissioned white paper is a path-breaking study of the live entertainment industry in India.
The report provides a comprehensive analysis of the live entertainment market, identifying new trends, development trajectories, and strategic advice for the continued growth of the industry. The industry is evolving from a disintegrated market to a well-organized and essential part of the cultural and creative economy.
With close to half a million people attending live music concerts, event tourism is growing rapidly, which points to the emergence of a thriving music-tourism sector. Premium ticket segments like curated access, VIP treats, and luxury stays have grown over 100% annually, in line with experience-based consumerism. Tier-2 cities are also joining in more and more, driven by multi-city tours and festivals in regional venues.
The organized live events segment, among the most rapidly growing within India's media and entertainment universe, grew 15% in 2024, adding an additional ₹1,300 crore in revenues. Amidst the changing scenario, mega-events commonly generate between 2,000 and 5,000 short-term jobs per event, demonstrating the industry's dedication to generating employment opportunities and building skills.
