India: Land of Spirituality, Ranks Low on Religion


Bangalore: India, the land of goddesses and gurus ranks low on religion. It ranked as the world's 18th most religious country according to the survey released by Win-Gallup International Religiosity and Atheism Index, reports NewsTrackIndia. Here are the most religious countries in the world.

India (Ranked 18):

India is considered as the birthplace of four of the world’s major religious traditions; namely Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism. Throughout its history, religion has been regarded as an important part of the country’s culture. That is why a large number of Indians associate themselves with a religion. Religion has played an important role in the Indian way of life. Rituals, worships and other religious activities are important in an individual’s daily life. A vast majority of Indians engage in religious activities on a daily basis. Even occasions like birth, marriage and death involves elaborate sets of religious customs. India also hosts numerous pilgrimage sites to many of the religions. The Hindus recognize several Indian holy cities like Haridwar and Varanasi. The Buddhist recognize Bodh Gaya, Sarnath and Sanchi Stupa as an important pilgrimage site. For Muslims, the Dargah Shareef of Khwaza Moinuddin Chisti in Ajmer is a major pilgrimage site. The Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar is the most sacred place of worship for the Sikhs.
