India & Cambodia to Enable Cross-Border UPI-KHQR Payments for Travelers
- NIPL and ACLEDA Bank partner to enable QR payments between India and Cambodia
- Indian travellers to pay at 4.5M+ KHQR merchants; Cambodians to use UPI QR across India
- Partnership aims to boost secure, seamless digital payments for tourists and businesses
India and Cambodia are preparing to bring major convenience to travelers with a new partnership that will allow cross-border QR payments using India’s UPI and Cambodia’s KHQR systems. NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), the global arm of NPCI, has signed an agreement with ACLEDA Bank, Cambodia’s first publicly listed commercial bank, to make this possible.
Through this collaboration, Indian tourists visiting Cambodia will be able to pay at more than 4.5 million KHQR-enabled merchants using any UPI-supported mobile app. Likewise, Cambodian visitors in India will be able to scan and pay through their local payment apps at over 709 million UPI QR code touchpoints across the country.
The initiative aims to create a faster, safer, and more convenient payment experience for travelers. It will also help businesses in both countries by widening digital payment options across shops, restaurants, tourist spots, and other service locations.

Ritesh Shukla, MD & CEO of NIPL, said the partnership strengthens digital payment links between the two nations and allows users to rely on trusted payment methods while abroad. ACLEDA Bank President & Group Managing Director In Channy added that the agreement establishes a strong technical and operational bridge between UPI and KHQR, supporting secure and affordable cross-border transactions. He also noted that the move aligns with ASEAN’s broader goal of boosting regional digital payment interoperability.
NIPL, founded in 2020, works to expand UPI and RuPay globally by offering technology support and consulting services to other countries. ACLEDA Bank, with assets of $11.94 billion and more than 6.18 million customers, operates in Cambodia, Myanmar, and Laos, and serves millions through its ACLEDA Super App.
