  • With two cloud regions in India and major clients like HDFC, Flipkart, and Apollo, Google Cloud is expanding rapidly in a market expected to reach $24.2 billion by 2028.
In a strategic move to bolster its presence in India’s fast-growing cloud market, Google Cloud has appointed Sashikumar Sreedharan as the new Managing Director for India. The announcement was made on July 1, marking a leadership transition in a market that is central to Google Cloud’s artificial intelligence (AI) ambitions.
Sreedharan succeeds Bikram Singh Bedi, who has been elevated to Vice President of Google Cloud Asia Pacific (APAC). Bedi will now focus on strategic regional initiatives across the APAC region. Reflecting on his tenure, Bedi said, “It has been an incredible four and a half years leading Google Cloud in India. I am immensely proud of the business that we have built with the support of my team, our customers and partners. I look forward to contributing to APAC's strategic priorities and watching India's continued success under Sashi’s leadership”.
This leadership change comes at a time when Google Cloud is ramping up its competition with Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS) in India, a key battleground for cloud services driven by increasing enterprise AI adoption.
In his new role, Sreedharan will lead Google Cloud’s go-to-market strategy in India. He will engage closely with enterprise customers, digital-native businesses, partners, and developers to accelerate AI-led transformation. Sreedharan brings over 30 years of industry experience and has previously held senior leadership roles at Microsoft India, SAP, and IBM. Most recently, he served as Google Cloud’s Chief Operating Officer for APAC, overseeing regional operations since joining in 2023.
Commenting on the announcement, Karan Bajwa, President of Google Cloud APAC, said, “AI is poised to redefine India’s industries and supercharge the productivity and creativity of its vast talent pool. With our deep AI heritage, cutting-edge technical infrastructure, and innovative solutions, Google Cloud is uniquely positioned to partner with Indian businesses and the public sector. As Sashi takes on the leadership of our team in India, I’m confident he will further propel our organisation and our customers to their next phase of growth in this crucial market”.
Google Cloud has seen significant momentum in India over the past year, supported by the adoption of its integrated AI technology platform. The company operates two cloud regions in Mumbai and Delhi-NCR, offering services to a wide range of industries.
Its customer portfolio includes prominent names such as HDFC Bank, HDFC Ergo, ICICI Prudential, Flipkart, Meesho, Myntra, Apollo 24/7, Manipal Hospitals, Dr. Reddy’s Labs, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, Glance, Sharechat, and Dream11. Additionally, Google Cloud is actively collaborating with government and public sector initiatives like ONDC, Nirmit Bharat, and Karamyogi to aid in digital transformation.
Expressing enthusiasm about his new role, Sreedharan said, “My time as COO for APAC has deeply affirmed my belief in Google Cloud’s winning strategy and powerful AI-first platform. I am excited to return to the field and to work with our customers to advance their innovation agenda”.
According to IDC, India’s public cloud services market is projected to reach $24.2 billion by 2028, underscoring the critical role that cloud and AI will play in driving digital transformation across sectors.
