pROTESTS AGAINST LABOUR LAWS IN INDIA

The proposed amendments to the existing labour laws will bring three labor laws into a single code—Industrial Disputes Act, 1947, Trade Unions Act, 1926 and the Industrial Employment Act, 1946. Proposals to the new amendments include a clause which allows companies with a workforce of 300to issue pink slips without any official authorization. Besides this, the new amendments would make it difficult for the labour to form trade unions. Therefore, popular trade unions like Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) are protesting against the bill.

Goods and Services Tax (GST)

GST

Although this constitutional amendment bill has been passed by the Lok Sabha with two-third majority, it is yet to be cleared by the Rajya Sabha and needs the approval of half of the states in India. Rajya Sabha, where BJP lacks majority could pose a tough challenge to its clearance. Despite the pain-points, the government is optimistic about the passage of the bill in 2016.
