CWG: Meet India's 10 Gold Medal Winners


# Amit Kumar (Wrestling)

Amit Kumar defeated Ebikweminomo Welson of Nigeria to win the gold in the men's 57 kg freestyle wrestling competition. Amit won the bout 3-1 on classification points.

He started wrestling in second grade at the age of seven. One fine day, despite him being in the second grade, he easily defeated a seventh grade student in a wrestling match during lunch break. His teacher appreciated him and his family encouraged him to pursue his talent, and so he was admitted in the akhara of Hansrajji. Later, wrestling coach and former Asian and Commonwealth Games medalist Satpal Singh took him in his Delhi's wrestling training centre at Chhatrasal stadium, Model Town.

# Vinesh Phogat (wrestling)

The young and vibrant Vinesh Phogat claimed gold in women’s freestyle 48kg wrestling competition in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games. She won over Gngland’s Yana Rattigan with scores of 11-8. She is the third of the famous sisters, Geeta and Babita, who were once criticized for taking up a male-dominated sport.
