Court Cases in India That Enraged the Whole Country
Ayodhya Case
This controversial case has strong political, historical and religious roots. The story of this case revolves around a piece of land in Ayodhya, which is the birth place of Lord Rama. On 6th December, 1992, a bunch of violent Hindu activists demolished Babri Mosque which is located in the same vicinity where a Hindu Temple of Lord Rama already existed. This led to several major brutal riots that further intensified the matter. There was hence puzzlement about who will be the entitled to the land. The case in Allahabad court got more and more controversial with time and the judgment came after 18 years. The judgment was made keeping religious sentiments of both communities in mind. The court ordered that the 2.77 acres of land in Ayodhya should be split into 3 parts. The Hindu Mahasabha got its share to build a Ram temple, while the Sunni Waqf Board and the Nirmohi Akhara got their equal share of land.
