Will the 2014 General Elections be Influenced by Social Media?


In India, politicians and the people are currently using the social media to deliver their views and boos’ which has worked for some and got some in trouble. But this has not deterred anyone from saying what they want or rather speak their mind in most cases.

In the recent U.S. elections social media was used as a tool between the President and the people and has touched hearts of millions and changed the perception of one being digitally engaged. The networking vibe in elections, will it catch the Indians in high spirits in the coming 2014 elections, seems like it just might. The three basic social media used by most politicians are Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. These days every politician tries to use Twitter of Facebook to reach out to individuals directly at all times.

In the 2012 U.S. presidential election the social media usage had become central to the campaign. The technological advances that social media has gone through over the years has allowed millions of users to use the two way communication. Users can share opinions, information, audio clips, images, video and others. This which has made these sites a cultural discussion dais in many places.

Before the 2008 U.S. election campaign used the communication technology like websites generally to raise money and for advertisements. However the political consultants now include the information they find on social media sites to target their online advertising.
