U.S. India Discuss Stable Afghanistan



NEW DELHI: India and the United States held discussions on regional cooperation in South Asia focussing on a stable and prosperous Afghanistan, a U.S. embassy statement said here.

The discussions were held during the visit of an inter-agency delegation, led by U.S.Deputy Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Laurel Miller, from Feb 16-18.

Miller met government officials, civil society, and political party leaders to continue high-level U.S.-India consultations on Afghanistan, the statement said.

"The consultations helped advance our shared commitment to regional cooperation on working towards a stable and prosperous Afghanistan," it said.

U.S. President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in their joint statement during the former's visit to India had shared the commitment for a secure, stable, and prosperous Afghanistan.

The leaders of both nations have repeatedly asserted the importance of a sustainable, inclusive, sovereign and democratic political order in Afghanistan for the benefit of the entire Afghan region.
