Sportsmen and Their Amazing Comebacks


Bangalore: Sports has always been a taxing career. Players have to give up a lot of things to remain fit and represent their country on international platforms. Sports persons have always had a huge fan following because they are given only on chance to perform on the field there are no retakes and second shots at anything. In such cases our respect for them increases. But what if there is a situation in which the sportsperson has been diagnosed with a life threatening disease or has been injured beyond and everyone has written them off. Yet in spite of all odds these heroes have fought and come back. And the comeback is by no means a small feat.

Here are 10 such sportsperson across the sporting arena who have fought and come back to dominate in their respective sport!

1. Yuvraj Singh

The cricketing hero for many people of our generation; Yuraj Sing is a left-hand middle-order batsman and a slow left-arm orthodox bowler. His ODI debut was in 2000 and his first test match was in 2003. He has been an important part of India’s victory in the U-19 World Cup in 2000, T20 World Cup in 2007 and ICC World Cup in 2011. He was named the Man of the Tournament in the 2011 Cricket World Cup and at the 2007 World Twenty20 he set a record for hitting six sixes against the English bowler Stuart Broad.

But in 2011 he was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his left lung for which he went through chemotherapy at the Cancer Research Institute in Boston, USA. His treatment concluded in March 2012. He trained and fought hard and made his comeback in the Twenty20 match against New Zeeland and then played in the recently conclude 2012 World Twenty20. With the grit and determination that Yuraj is known for, we can be sure that we are going to see a lot more records set and broken by him!
