Sportsmen and Their Amazing Comebacks

2. Lance Armstrong

Country: United States of America

Sport: Road Racing Cyclist

The name Lance Armstrong, till sometime back generated respect in everyone’s mind irrespective of whether they followed cycling or not! But now with the allegations of doping by the United States Anti-Doping Agency his image as a clean hero has been shattered in many minds. All his fans feel let down and also furious as in simple terms all the seven times he won the world’s toughest cycling competition was just plain cheating.

Enough said on how he letdown all his fans worldwide but his fight against cancer was something that many people thought he wouldn’t come out of. Keep everything happening now apart we must admit that his comeback was nothing short of a miracle and determination oh Armstrong’s part. 16 years ago, in October 1996, he was diagnosed with Stage 3 Testicular cancer with a tumor that had metastasized to his brain and lungs. He went through extensive chemotherapy sessions and surgeries.

As of now he has been stripped of all his Tour de France tittles, but Yuraj who recently was diagnosed with cancer still calls him his real life hero and he read Armstrong’s autobiographies for inspiration. Hero or not his fight against death and returning to compete and win in the toughest and most grueling cycling championship in the world is worthy of giving him a hero’s status.
