Soon Government To Run Buses On Electricity

sdBENGALURU: As we all know that busses more importantly cause a lot of pollution when you consider pollution caused by traffic as a whole. Government is now planning to set up these busses which will be converted from diesel buses of state transport corporations into cost-efficient electric buses, according to indiatimes.com.

As far as the cost goes, one battery will cost somewhere around 5-6 lakhs and 3.5 per unit of electricity consumption which is way less than the fuel prices. With this move, the vehicular pollution will significantly come down if it is implemented. All the metropolitan cities around the country will breathe a new life with this implication.

With ISRO’s help, Lithium batteries will be installed in these diesel guzzling buses and converted into green buses. Around 1.5 lakh buses are planned for these conversions into green vehicles because the state corporations can't even afford to pay for diesel.  The ministry for roads, transport and highways is already in talks with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for project assistance.

This project will be initially started with just 20 busses but if proved successful, it will go into large scale implementation of the plan. Speaking at the conference on green fuel transportation, Gadkari said his ministry has also suggested the agriculture ministry to conduct a research if sugar mills could produce ethanol from corn which would also be used as a bio fuel which will also help in lowering of pollution.

The government has already issued draft notification for allowing 100 percent bio-diesel for vehicles and is encouraging auto companies to develop compatible engines for the same.
