Sachin Tendulkar Launches Cancer Research Centre


Bangalore: The master blaster, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar recently launched a research center on gastrointestinal and liver cancers after India defeated Australia by an innings in the second Test match, as reported by TNN.

Along with former cricketer VVS Laxman the Little Master released a book on gastrointestinal cancers in the company of dozens of fans. Sachin inaugurated the research foundation electronically; the participants including doctors were enthusiastic to get their pictures clicked with the star cricketer and get his autograph during the inauguration. After inaugurating the Gastrointestinal and Liver Foundation for Research and Treatment (GIFT), Tendulkar said, “I think the greatest gift someone can get from doctors is life. I don't think there is anything more valuable than that. Hopefully there will be more smiling faces with the help of this foundation,” as reported by TNN.

India crushed Australia by an innings and 135 runs to take a 2-0 unbeatable lead in the 4-match series prior to the inauguration.

The event was preponed by the organizers by two hours as the cricketers wanted to leave early.

VVS Laxman said that as GI cancer incidence is increasing rapidly and it calls for a lot of attention for R&D in the field.  He further said, “Gastrointestinal and Liver Foundation for Research and Treatment (GIFT) is a gift to the society.”
