Modi The Second Most Followed World Leader on Twitter



BENGALURU: Prime Minister Narendra Modi climbs another step higher in his ‘Twiplomacy’. Just recently in July 2014 he was the fourth most followed among the world leaders and now he rocketed to the top second position right after Barack Obama who continues to hold the top spot. Modi made a stunning entry into the list of world leaders whose popularity can be cited in the vast following he acquired on the social media platform—Twitter.  

The Digital Policy Council reported that 136 countries out of 167 countries had accounts on Twitter either with their personal name or through the government websites. These Twitter leaders amount to 82 percent of the all the world leaders who together are followed by 116 million followers across the world.  There only 10 democracies in the world whose leaders are not active on Twitter to be in touch with their citizenry.

Adding 11 million followers in a period of one year, Barack Obama stands as the most followed leader in the world today. According to the data in TwitterCounter.com, Obama has the third largest number of Twitter followers in the world. Obama’s twitter account is constantly tweeted by his Organization for Action Staff. And at times Obama himself tweets which is usually signed as ‘-bo’. Obama made a revolutionary entry into the American system which immediately caught the attention of the entire world. The 21st century took a new shape with Obama heading the United States.
