Modi, Kejriwal Greet Nation On Maha Shivratri



NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings to the nation on the occasion of Maha Shivratri.

“Greetings to all on the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivratri,” Modi said in a statement.

Millions of devotees across the country celebrate the Maha Shivratri festival.

The festival is believed to celebrate the wedding of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Devotees stay awake all night, singing hymns and prayers, to seek Lord Shiva’s blessings.

Temples witnessed long lines of devotees since early morning to offer prayers, flowers and fruits.

Good wishes: Kejiriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also wished people on the occasion of Maha Shivratri.

“Good wishes to all of you on Maha Shivratri,” Mr. Kejriwal tweeted.

The citizens around the country are strictly following the rituals of Shivaratri on a wide scale. All the Shiva temples across the nation are thronged by the devotees from the wee hours of the day. Many people diligently follow the fasting and jagaran every year marking this auspicious day.
