Kalvari: 5 Facts About India's First Scorpene Class Submarine


BENGALURU: India has reached another milestone in the much needed augmentation of India’s naval capabilities with the undocking of the INS Kalvari, the Scorpene Class Stealth Submarine. And by 2020, all the other six Scorpene submarines being built at Mazagon Dock (MD Ltd) in collaboration with French from DCNS will be ready to serve the nation.

What is a Scorpene Submarine? The state-of-art features of the Scorpene class include superior strength and ability to launch a crippling attack on the enemy using precision guided weapons. Kalvari’s attack can be launched with torpedoes, the self propelled weapons with an explosive warhead, as well as with anti-ship missiles, underwater or above the surface.
