India Fare Poorly at Global Gender Gap Index

Bangalore: India once again lands in the limelight for wrong reasons. It is being labeled among the countries with the worst gender gap, according to the 2013 Global Gender Gap Index released by the World Economic Forum (WEF). This is mainly attributed to the plunging child sex ratio in the country, reports Madhavi Rajadhyaksha for TOI.

In the WEF’s report, India stands at 101st positions out of the 136 countries analyzed. The report’s indicates major discrepancy in access of women to economic, political, educational and healthcare opportunities and their participation in these kinds of services.
The report states, "In 2013, thirty-three countries have closed the gap in health and survival. China, Albania, India and Azerbaijan remain the lowest-ranking countries on this sub-index," reports TOI.
