The Birmingham Buddha:

This 500 kg statue of Buddha was found in a forsaken Buddhist monastery in Sultanganj town in 1861 and so was it called as Sultanganj Buddha by then. It was later taken to Britain when an English industrialist bought it. Today it stands as the main attraction in South Asian Gallery of Birmingham Museum.

The Amaravati Railings:

The Amaravati Railings are 2000 years old limestone cartouche on which scenes from Buddha’s life are carved upon. These railings were part of Buddhist sanctum constructed during the Ashoka’s period. Sir Walter Elliot, a British military explorer, excavated these railings in Andhra Pradesh and later they were sold to the British Museum and henceforth museum holds the possession.
