8 Women Who Figure in BJP's Revamped National Executive

BENGALURU: Bharatiya Janata Party’s Master Strategist, Amit Shah, revamped the 111 member party’s National Executive (NE). His well thought out structure retained some BJP veterans like L.K. Advani, Atal Bihari Vajapyee, Murli Manohar Joshi and omitted prominent Uninon Ministers like Smriti Irani, who was adored by Modi in the early days, Najma Heptuallah and Hema Mailini. Though his decision raised some eyebrows, Amit Shah doesn’t seem to compromise with the welfare of the party.

Amit Shah has done away with all the women in the party by giving them minimum space in the national executive. Eminent leaders like Smriti Irani are conspicuously missing from the reconstituted body. One thing is certain that Smriti no more enjoys the same clout that she did earlier. No mention of her name in the NE shows that she has lost her value for the party.

The only 8 women retained in the BJP’s NE Members are as follows:

Sushma Swaraj:

BJP’s one and only popular woman face is the external affairs minister, Sushma Swaraj. Her inclusion in the national executive comes as no surprise. 63-year-old Sushma has been a member of the party’s elite decision-making body. She is considered very close to veteran leader Advani.

Sushma SwarajManeka Gandhi:

Despite all the speculations revolving around the Ministry of women and Child Welfare headed by Maneka Gandhi, she has been included by Shah into the NE. She along with her son Varun Gandhi are now official members of the National Executive.

Niramala Sitaraman:

One of the finest leaders in the party Nirmala Sitaraman is another obvious woman to be included in the NE. Nirmala has seen a sharp rise in her stature within the party. The most obvious reason for her inclusion is her dignified persona and articulate views. She is going to be the major game-changer in the coming future.
