7 Smart Women Scientists Who Made India Proud

BANGALORE: The misogyny of the casual expectancy that men will thrive in the field of science is but an overstatement that was probably derived from dim witted egotistical men.

The programmed thought progress when asked about a famous scientist would impulsively bring voice to Nikola Tesla, Albert Einstein, CV Raman or APJ Abdul Kalam. The attention to women pioneer is but a fading light that diminishes unnoticed for both men and women especially in India. This could probably be due to educational structure that placed high emphasis on the achievements of men or that encouraging girls to enter the field of science was snipped.

However, it’s never too late to tap in the resources of several Indian women who broke the shackles of standard norms as take destiny in their own hands, reports, The Better India.

JANAKIJanaki Ammal

At a time when women were bejeweled as the ornaments of society and were tethered to the confines of house work, Janaki rose against stereotypical norms to pursue a career in scientific research. As a botanist she studied cytogenetics and phytogeography and conducted chromosome studies on a wide range of garden plants while she resided in England. She then returned to India where she was designated as Director General of the Botanical Survey of India. Besides her many achievements she was awarded the Padma Shri in 1957.
