5 Reasons for Mamata Banerjee's Sweeping Win

Food Security for the ‘Needy’

From drought-affected citizens of Purulia and people of Singur who lost their land in the land acquisition scam to malnourished tea garden workers and homeless people in WB, Mamata's bid to provide food security was a roaring success. The scheme named 'Khadya Sathi' provided rice and wheat at Rs 2 per kg to around seven crore citizens.

The ‘Victim’ Card

Right in the middle of the election campaign, Mamata went to the extent of warning the state police of the consequences once she returned to power while accusing the force of unleashing terror at the Election Commission's behest. The war-cry was sounded when the EC made unprecedented arrangements for free and fair poll in the state. Mamata-led TMC accused the central government of creating "an emergency type situation" in the state, playing the 'Victim' card.

Riding on Personal image and Charisma

"I am the candidate in all 294 seats, cast vote for me," is how Mamata projected herself ahead of the party and in the process managed to counter the opposition attack on the corruption controversies. From Saradha scam to the Narada sting, Mamata blunted the opposition onslaught with her personal image and charisma. Well, it worked with the result there for everyone to see.
