Satyagraha Movement

Satyagraha is Gandhi’s non-violent method of protest. It started off in Champaran, Bihar in 1917. Gandhi initiated this protest to inspire the farmers to fight against the harsh plantation practice. Kheda Satyagraha was launched in Gujarat in the same year, to support the farmers who could not pay the revenue to the British government due to the crop failure. Ahmadabad Satyagraha was commenced in favor of cotton mill workers in 1918, to oppose the cruelties against them by the Britishers. Gandhi asked his supporters to follow non-cooperation, civil disobedience, Hijrat, fasting and strike as the rules of Satyagraha. This movement elevated Gandhi in Indian freedom fight and Satyagraha as a powerful weapon.
