But unfortunately, in this day and age where most of the world has been explored and populated, the chances of unearthing hidden treasures are very slim.

The Amber Room

Portrayed as the eighth wonder of the world by those who saw it, the Amber Room is a 17th century marvel. Valued at more than $142 million, this piece of art is arguably the most valuable missing treasure in history.

Located at Catherine Palace, near St. Petersburg, this coveted piece of art that was created for Prussia’s King Friedrich I and given to Russian czar Peter the Great in 1716, was looted by the Nazis during the Second World War and put on display in Konigsberg Castle. However after the war, when Konigsberg surrendered in 1945, the treasure was nowhere to be found.
