Bangalore: Corruption, shady practices and illegality has plagued the world but there still are a few people who have the courage to raise a voice against it. These people blew the whistle at the cost of becoming targets and inspired others who see something wrong to speak up. Here are top 5 whistleblowers in recent times, who blew the lid off various scams and illegal practices.

Cynthia Cooper:
Cynthia Cooper formerly served as the Vice President of Internal Audit at WorldCom. In 2002, Cooper and her team of auditors worked together, frequently at nights and in secret to investigate and unearth $3.8 billion fraud at WorldCom. It has been one of the largest incidents of accounting fraud in U.S. history.

In 2002 Cooper was named one of three "People of the Year" by Time magazine. Cooper also went on to write a book about her life and the WorldCom fraud, called ‘Extraordinary Circumstances: The Journey of a Corporate Whistleblower’ that was published in 2008.
