5 Whistleblowers Who Blew the Lid off Scams

Vijay Pandhare is an Indian whistleblower on the list who blew the lid off the Maharashtra Irrigation Scam 2012. He is a bureaucrat in Maharashtra and is the Chief Engineer of the Water Resources Department and a member of the state level technical advisory committee. Pandhare was the whistleblower who wrote to the chief minister of Maharashtra and its governor alleging irregularities and cost inflation in irrigation projects. In his letters he revealed that Rs 12,000 crore spent on lift irrigation projects in the state were a total waste as around 99 percent of the total 227 projects in Maharashtra were not working and 90 percent never began functioning. Pandhare, in a letter to other engineers said that corruption can be controlled by curtailing the powers. The irregularities were so severe that he alleged that the government was "...playing with people's lives".
