 5. Sankirtan of Manipur

Sankirtan in Manipur

Sankirtana is the ritual singing, drumming and dancing of Manipur that mark the various religious stages of Vaishnava people of Manipur. The Manipuri Hindus believe that Sankirtan is the way through which Mokshya (transcendence) can be achieved in Kaliyuga (present epoch). One attractive feature of Sankirtan is that the performers use 100 different ‘taals’ or rhythmic variations.

6. Ramlila Performed in Northern India

The story of Lord Rama when dramatically enacted by artists it is called as Ramlila, which perhaps does not require any special introduction as it is one of the popular art forms in Northern India. It is usually performed during the Navaratri (9 sacred days) before the popular festival Dussehra. Most of these Ramlilas performed are on the basis of Tulsidas’s Ramcharitamanas, which ends at Ram’s victory over Ravana.
