9. Italy:

The Italian Armed Forces comprising of the Italian Army, the Italian Navy and the Italian Air Force take the role of the Italy's military and territorial police force.

The President of the Italian Republic heads the armed forces as the President of the Supreme Council of Defense. There are 179,155 active military personnel (army, navy and air force) as of 2012.

In addition to this, there are 109,499 personnel of the Carabinieri ( Italian forces). Italy currently maintains the tenth highest military budget in the world.

8. Turkey:

The military forces of the Republic of Turkey consisting of the Army, the Navy and the Air Force are one among the most powerful armed forces in the world.

The Gendarmerie (Turkish Armed Forces) and the Coast Guard, both of which have law enforcement and military functions, operate as components of the internal security forces in peacetime, and are subordinate to the Ministry of Interior.

During wartime, they are subordinates to the Army and Navy. The President of Turkey is the military's overall head.
