Suicide is the most significant and serious social problem in Guyana, having the highest suicide rate among the South American and Caribbean nations. This country ranks fourth worldwide for suicides committed. An upsetting statistic exposed that suicide in Guyana is commonly found in the age group of 15-24 year-olds with depression and domestic disagreements as the main reason. 40 percent of the citizens are found to commit suicide by taking agricultural pesticides.
