This rule protects the confidential information concerning a rape victim. A rape case cannot be left solely to the results of a medical examination as doctors can only confirm the evidence of sexual activity. Rape is not a medical condition and therefore the case cannot be dismissed if results turn negative. Furthermore, a copy of the report is to be made available to the victim on demand. The decision of the court will not be based purely on the reports of medical examination.
