8 Indegenous Defence Accomplishments Added To the Armed Forces


BENGALURU: India lies amidst hostile neighborhoods, which have raged war against it in the past. However, there is no lack of talent pool and technology to provide the best for Indian Armed Forces, by either collaborating with the foreign companies or developing technology indigenously. Possessing advanced weaponry in today’s world cannot be overstated. Having said that, India in 2014 took several such steps in that direction giving new additions to its defense fleet.

To know more on that fleet, here are eight Indian defense achievements which deserve a special mention, reports ET.

The INS Kolkata:

INS KolkataCommissioned by Narendra Modi in August 2014, INS Kolkata, weighing 6, 800 tons is the largest ever stealth destroyer to be built in India. The vessel has an indigenous content of about 70 percent, also has very good stealth capabilities and state-of-the-art-surveillance. This is the first in class of projects commissioned under Project-15B. The  original sanction for its construction was   3,051 crore which pegged up to 11, 662 crore, which is always the story. India’s endeavor is to build three-dimensional blue water Navy capable of taking care of India’s strategic interests in the region stretching from Persian Gulf to the Malaccan Strait and INS Kolkata is an effort to achieve those goals.
