Brief: A major data breach in April resulted in a loss of data of about 228,435 beneficiaries that were affiliated with the South Carolina Department of Health & Human Services. During the investigation it was found that a former employee of the South Carolina agency executed the hacking and was arrested for transferring the information via email.

7. Thrift Savings Plan

Brief: In May this year, a total of 123,000 Thrift Savings Plan account holders lost their personal and financial information that was stolen from a contractors system. A TSP contractor Serco was attacked by hackers to execute the breach. A total of $313 billion TSP was disclosed ten months after the incident occurred.
