The Apple TV is a small form factor network appliance designed to play digital content from the iTunes Store, Netflix, Hulu Plus, YouTube, Flickr, iCloud, MLB.tv, NBA League Pass, NHL GameCenter or any Mac OS X or Windows computer running iTunes onto an enhanced-definition or high-definition widescreen television. The media box primarily runs on a modified version of x86 Mac OS operating system. In 2010, Apple made some major changes to the product, as they shifted the whole platform to an ARM/iOS based unique combination. At present, the app-like home screen is said to resemble to an iPhone rather than a Mac. Apple also announced that the product will be featured with the latest version of their OS. Even though build as a closed platform, developers are keeping their fingers crossed so that someday Apple might change the development status of the product.
