The Worst Security Mishaps of 2012
NOVEMBER:
The month of November started with an unexpected move from Skype to disable the account password reset option on its website after false reports on a possible account hack started spreading.
Later that month e-commerce front-runners eBay had to secure their U.S. website by clearing certain vulnerabilities like an SQL injection hole and a cross-site scripting vulnerability.
DECEMBER:
One of the major events that made news was the disruption of the International Telecommunication Union’s meeting in Dubai. The meeting was held to discuss its role within the internet. But as the meeting progressed a group of hacktivists broke into the ITU server and database and blocked the data access. This created havoc throughout the meeting as the much needed data to be discussed on wasn’t available. The group later said that it opposed the ITU, a United Nations Standard, from taking control over the internet regulation.
