Providing Affordable Good Phones for Worldwide Youth, Sky Li Resigned from OPPO and Founded Realme

skyloRecently, former senior executive of OPPO and head of OPPO India, Sky Li, announced on the Chinese microblogging website, Weibo, that he has officially resigned from OPPO and founded a new technology brand Realme. Sky Li, who now joins as Global CEO for Realme, also mentioned that in the future the Realme brand would focus on providing mobile phones that offer strong performance and stylish designs, bringing young people a joyful life featuring affordable "technology" and "beauty".

Realme founder Sky Li led OPPO to grow from the business available in 3 markets to one that covers 31 countries and regions including Southeast Asia, South Asia, Middle East, Africa and Oceania. Under the guidance of Sky Li, OPPO's overseas business that started from scratch now ranks among the top three smartphone companies in many countries. Sky Li’s steady leadership has played a crucial role in laying a solid foundation for OPPO in the global smartphone industry.

The idea of Realme germinated from Sky’s successful experience in the overseas market and in-depth understanding of the expectations of the youth from a smartphone across the globe. Speaking of the new role, Sky Li Global CEO, Realme, said,Smartphones today are an extension of personality and not just communication tools. Young people across the globe may have different cellphone habits and aesthetic views but their demands are similar in terms of performance and design. With few options available in the market to meet the ever-changing customer demand, Realme is focusing on bridging the gap by providing products with the latest tech innovations along with strong performance and stylish designs. As Realme is targeting the global market, we aspire to  inject fresh momentum into the global smartphone industry.”

As a mobile phone brand for young people, Realme is also very young in terms of team composition, with the average age of team members being no more than 30 years old. The young and localized team has laid a solid foundation for Realme by accurately acknowledging the pain points of young people around the world and opening up the global market.

Realme launched its first smartphone ‘Realme 1’ addressing these issues and received an overwhelming response for its excellent performance and design from customers since its launch in May 2018. Realme 1 witnessed sales of 4 lakh units in 40 days and quickly grasped 1.4% market share with only one month’s sales in Q2 according to Counterpoint, making the whole series Amazon's “Bestseller” with a 4.4 rating. It soared to the second place in India’s smartphone market by virtue of its monthly sales volume.

Realme 1 was launched in three variants, 6GB RAM+128GB ROM, launched at INR 13,990/-, 4GB RAM+64GB ROM, launched at INR 10,990/-  and 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM version at INR 8,990/-, that have been well received by the young and online consumers. While the 6GB RAM+128GB ROM and 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM are available in 2 colors Diamond Black and Solar Red, the 4GB RAM+64GB ROM is available in diamond black, Solar Red and a limited-edition Moonlight Silver.

The original inspiration of Realme's brand name comes from the  OPPO Real series slogan "It's Real Me!" that went viral back in 2010 and the same attitude is what Realme wants to deliver to the audience. This was much before competitors started their business contrary to the belief that the name has something to do with other brands. The brand has registered the trademarks of real me and real you in India.
