Outsourcing Product Development- A World Without Borders


Initially the product companies, more commonly known as Independent Software Vendors (ISV), were less inclined to outsource activities that involve intellectual property, such as research and development, which later changed. Today the resistance to outsourcing R&D is decreasing and as per a recent survey conducted by the Economic Intelligence Unit, the number of companies with at least some R&D activity occurring overseas is on the rise.

The advent of the cloud computing, advancements in technology, and the transitory nature of markets and customer expectations have added to the development of the OPD industry. They have blurred the lines between outsourcing IT functions and have completely eliminated the need for product development partners to be geographically close. And as today’s product companies become more customer-facing and focus on improving customer satisfaction with better support and a wider range of innovative services, the OPD industry is bound to experience a dramatic boom in the coming times.
