Industry Body Suggests Steps to Boost IT Sector Growth in Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad: An industry body today presented a "route map" to the Andhra Pradesh Government to augment the current pace of development in the IT sector.

Information Technology and IT-enabled Services Industry Association of Andhra Pradesh (ITsAP), in its 10- point presentation, has suggested the Government come out with a fast-track and single window clearance system, including for land allotment, to attract fresh investors into the sector.

As investment in the IT sector in Tier-II cities like Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Warangal and Tirupati did not happen the way it was envisaged, ITsAP recommended that a dedicated Government official of the rank of a Secretary be nominated to come out with "creative proposals", taking into account the best practices being followed by other states.

Information Technology Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah, who received the "route map" from ITsAP President V Rajanna here, said: "The recommendations will act as a guiding principle in promoting the IT industry. The Government will take necessary measures to implement the recommendations and make Andhra Pradesh the most competitive and investor-friendly destination for ICT globally."

ITsAP recommended that the State Government vigorously pursue with the Centre and secure approval for the proposed Information Technology Investment Region around Hyderabad to attract fresh investments.

It said air connectivity to Europe, Far East and North America from Hyderabad needs to be improved.
