Intel To 'Mark' Its Name On Cloud

Bangalore: Intel, the world's largest and highest valued semiconductor chip maker, is partnering with 16 cloud service providers( CSP’S) to provide better services by revealing which Intel processor has been used in their  IaaS (infrastructure-as-a-service) products. The company’s partnership with 16 CSPs represents over $3.5 billion in cloud services revenue expected for 2014.

The program will see the Intel brand plastered across a range of cloud services worldwide. The new campaign is aimed at helping cloud service providers (CSPs) understand their hardware options and differentiate between platforms as well as provide information via Intel Cloud Finder search engine with free-to-try services.

According to partnership, the cloud service providers reveal about details of the Intel processor powering a specific service that might include its model number, and whether the processor supports features like AES instruction set- that accelerates encryption and decryption or AVX+ extensions- that boost floating-point intensive calculations. The 16 CSP’s including company’s like Rackspace, will be provided with a "Powered by Intel Cloud Technology" logo to be attached to the relevant cloud services. This movement would support Intel extend its branding into cloud.

Intel said that it would support more CSPs to reveal information about their IaaS offerings later in the year.
