Indian IT In High Spirits Over Discretionary Elevation

Indian IT industry is in high spirit as the demand for discretionary projects is set to rise this year and industry executives are bracing themselves for this increase in the coming quarters, reports the Economic Times.

In an interview last month, N Chandrasekaran, CEO of TCS, said, "In the US, there's a lot of positive mood and we expect discretionary spending next year to see an uptick based on the conversations we have had."

According to Rajiv Bansal, Infosys’s CFO,” The discretionary spend, which has kind of disappeared from the market in the last two to three years seems to be coming back.” Ganesh Natarajan, CEO of Pune based Zensar Technologies, opines that the demand environment will be solid with discretionary spending particularly in the field of digital transformation. He expected that investments in bigdata, cloud and mobility will increase this year.

Apurva Shah, senior portfolio manager at BNP Paribas Mutual Fund, concludes that the IT services sector was looking optimistic as the demand continues to be good in the U.S. and 2014 is looking better than 2013; however, the ongoing U.S. immigration overhaul will not only pose a huge challenge but also prove costly for the IT companies in getting visas and to outplace consultants.
