CCRA Certification To India Will Boost Digital Agenda: Deity

NEW DELHI: The recognition of India as an 'Authorizing Nation' for CCRA certification to test IT and electronics products for cyber security will give fillip to digital agenda of the country.

"The recognition will help to fast forward programmes related to real time secured service delivery such as e-governance, e-commerce, financial inclusion schemes and citizen engagement platforms," Department of Electronics & Information Technology (Deity) Secretary R S Sharma said at a CII event here.

In September last year, India had been granted 'Authorizing Nation' status under the international Common Criteria Recognition Arrangement (CCRA), which enables it to test IT and electronics products for cyber security and issue certificates which will be acceptable internationally.

Earlier India had the status of 'Consuming Nation' with respect to certification of electronics and IT products.

Consuming members in the CCRA can't issue internationally recognized certificates, but they are free to issue national certificates.

"The authorisation status will give Indian electronics and IT manufacturing industry and government a collaborative environment the Prime Minister's vision of 'Make in India'," Sharma said.

The Digital India programme aims at connecting all gram panchayats by broadband Internet, promotes e-governance and transform India into a connected knowledge economy.
