The Biggest U.S. military hack by Gary McKinnon

Garry McKinnon is the man behind the "biggest military computer hack of all time." McKinnon a Scottish systems administrator infiltrated U.S. military systems in 2001 and 2002 to search for evidence of extraterrestrial life and UFOs.

According the U.S. military the damage caused by this jobless IT expert included the deletion of critical files from operating systems, which compelled U.S. Army's Military District of Washington to shut down network of 2,000 computers for 24 hours. McKinnon is also accused of deleting weapons logs at the Earle Naval Weapons Station. Officials said the cost of cleanup from McKinnon's hack was over $700,000 reports InfoWorld.
