10 Deadly Hacks That Made Headlines

Citibank hacked by Vladimir Levin

In 1995, a 24-year-old, Russian geek named Vladimir Levin hacked Citibank servers and transferred around  $10.7 million into various accounts in USA,Finland,Holland,Germany and Israel.

This is one good instance of financially motivated hacking where Levin used a laptop computer in London to access the Citibank network, and obtained a list of customer codes and passwords. Eventually he was caught by the FBI and sentenced to three years in jail, he was also ordered to pay Citibank $240,015 in restitution.
