National Proud Moment: 6 Indian Infrastructure Projects Among The Top 100

# Mundra Ultra Mega Power Plant (Mundra UMPP)

Mundra UMPP is a sub bituminous coal-fired power plant in Tunda village at Mundra in Gujarat, India. The capacity of the project is 4,000 MW with 5 units of 800 MW each.

The coal for the power plant is imported primarily from Indonesia. The source of water for the power plant is sea water from Gulf of Kutch. The power plant is owned by Tata Power.

The plant uses super-critical boiler technology. Compared to other sub-critical plants in India, Mundra UMPP uses 1.7 million tonnes of less coal per year while generating the same quantum of power.

# Narmada canal solar

The Canal Solar Power Project is a project launched in Gujarat, to use 19,000 Kilometer long network of Narmada canals across the state for setting up solar panels to generate electricity. It was the first ever such project in India. This project has been commissioned by Sun Edison India.

The pilot project will generate 1.6 million units of clean energy per annum and also prevent evaporation of 9 million litres of water annually from the canal. The project virtually eliminates the requirement to acquire vast tracts of land and limits evaporation of water from the 750 meter long canal, tackling two challenges simultaneously by providing energy and water security.
